I had a pretty small role to play in this one, simply creating the spritesheet that ended up being used in a different effect (http://artstation.com/artwork/nYL4Ro) and working with Steam User ImAware (https://steamcommunity.com/id/Duhabibi) to integrate it into this effect upon their request.
